The BECK® 501 Trucker Vest in Chestnut Brown is the warm-tone version of the 501 Trucker vest — same 1.3mm front quarter horsehide construction and trucker silhouette as the black, in a brown that develops visible patina at pressure points and flex lines with wear. Limited edition. BECK®’s Northeaster Flying Togs label has produced horsehide riding gear in the USA since 1928.

Two concealed carry pistola pockets, 9 inches deep, with 500 Cordura lining. Two exterior zippered hand pockets with 200 Cordura lining. Two covered snap-down chest pockets. Rear snap waist tighteners. Oxford nylon lining. Perma Core thread by American & Efird (A&E). Antique-plated brass hardware. YKK zipper. Made in the USA.

Finally got my hands on the brown horsehide

I wanted a chestnut brown vest that would actually change with wear and this one is already getting darker along the creases after a couple months of weekend rides. The two concealed carry pockets are deep and sit flat against the body, and the zippered hand pockets are handy for keys and a phone. Took a few rides to stop feeling stiff but that was expected with horsehide this thick.

Chestnut brown patina is something else

Three months of daily riding and this vest looks completely different from when it arrived — in the best way. The chestnut color deepens at the flex points and where my arms brush the sides. You don't get that kind of character with dyed cowhide.

Bought the brown after seeing my buddy's black one

My riding partner picked up the black 501 last fall and I've been watching that thing develop over the winter. Decided I had to have one but went with the chestnut brown because the patina on the brown version looked even more dramatic. Ordered a size 44 — fits snug through the chest but I knew from reading the sizing guide to go true to my chest measurement. The first weekend ride was a little stiff, but I was already feeling it loosen up by the second stop. The back is one solid piece, no center seam, which was important to me because I'm planning on mounting my club patch. BECK hardware throughout and the stitching is tight and even everywhere I've looked. This is American-made gear and it shows.

Brown horsehide ages better than I expected

I was on the fence between black and brown for a while. Went brown because I figured it'd show patina better, and I was right. The chestnut finish on BECK's 501 starts shifting after just a few weeks of wear — crease lines darken, the front panels pick up texture from wind and sun. Fit is the same solid trucker cut as the black, with that dense front quarter horsehide that takes time to soften up. The concealed carry pockets are roomy enough for my full-size carry and the YKK zippers haven't given me a single problem. If you're a brown leather guy this is the vest to get.

Snap-down collar is the reason to pick it over the cafe models. Low-sheen horsehide that buyers rate above Vanson, Schott and Aero at a much lower price; arms move well in riding position. Size up if you layer.

Bought Black Next Week Bought The Brown

I thought about this idea for a while, and have even looked for trucker style vests in the past. Never seen a horsehide one, so was super excited to make this purchase. Super high quality HH, butter soft, I think it came well conditioned, and the fit is perfect.

MADE IN USA - Exactly what I was looking for

The horsehide itself is totally highest quality I've seen in a very long time. I just got it last week so I only been out riding wtih it twice. Just was to thank you for making such a great vest. Ok, WOW - Blown away, and super happy with the quality and design, I put it on and felt the horsehide as I zippered her up and buttoned her. I love the feeling of pre-broken in HH. This was such a classic idea to re-create in a vest. I also own the lastest BECK 737 Trucker jacket and I was super happy when they launched this. YOU CANNOT FIND HIGHER QUALITY HORSEHIDE AND DESIGN ANYWHERE. Best part is made in America and that means a damn lot to me. I'm not even sure I am going to where this when I ride, I may just keep it in my bag and thrown it on when I go to a bar stop on a run lol.
