Construction & Materials

The BECK® 566 is the foundation horsehide motorcycle vest from the Northeaster Flying Togs line — front quarter horsehide from a label that has built riding gear in the USA since 1928. Front quarter horsehide is the densest, most tightly-grained section of the hide: rain-repellent, abrasion-resistant, and built to develop a rich patina with riding. The leather stands up on its own off the body and molds to the rider’s shape over the break-in period.

The one-piece back panel eliminates seams across the patch area — cleaner for display and structurally stronger than multi-panel construction. The Legendary Pistola™ tethered leather gun pockets accommodate a full-size Colt .45 ACP with integrated magazine and cell phone pouch; pockets tethered to the underarm for a sag-proof design that holds position through riding. 1¼-inch stand-up collar provides neck coverage without bulk. YKK scratchproof zippers. Twin front chest pockets with hidden snaps and integrated sunglass holder on the left chest. Cropped zipper with hidden snap closure. Perma Core thread by American & Efird (A&E). Nylon Oxford liner. Made in the USA.

Great horsehide jacket for the money

I rode in cowhide vests for years and the horsehide on the 566 is noticeably denser. Wind doesn't cut through it the same way. It was stiff the first couple weeks and I wished it had broken in faster, but it's coming around and the build looks like it will last.

Bought the black 566 after riding in my brother's brown one

My brother picked up the brown 566 a few months ago and I've been giving him grief about it every ride since. Finally broke down and ordered the black version. The two vests are the same cut and construction — front quarter horsehide, Pistola pockets, stand-up collar, single-piece back — but the black carries differently. With cowhide you lose detail fast; with this horsehide the grain stays visible and the surface develops a subtle gloss where it contacts your jacket lapels. The chest pockets have a hidden snap closure and one of them doubles as a sunglass holder, which I thought was a gimmick until I used it every day for a week. The nylon Oxford liner is light and keeps everything comfortable against a t-shirt. If you're comparing this to the brown 566, buy whichever color matches your riding style — the quality is identical. I went black because I run a black cut on my club gear and wanted everything to match.

Super impressed

The 566 vest is cut from serious horsehide, heavy and stiff for the first few wears before it gives. There's plenty of room across the back for a patch.

Thank you for the review! The BECK 566 horsehide motorcycle vest was built from heavyweight American horsehide that only gets better with age. We’re glad to hear you’re already seeing the character develop, and yes, the large back panel was designed with club and rider patches in mind.

566 black — clean cut, ready to work

This is the vest I've been looking for. Black front quarter horsehide, one-piece back panel, concealed carry that actually fits a full-size gun. Straightforward and right.

Solid vest

Solid vest. The hide has real thickness and the snaps feel built to last.

We appreciate your feedback! One of the things riders love most about the BECK 566 horsehide vest is the substantial leather and heavy-duty hardware. Those durable snaps and thick horsehide are built for decades of use.

Black 566 is the classic club-style cut done right

Patch holder for 12 years and I've cycled through more vests than I can count. Most of them had some kind of compromise — a seam across the back, flimsy pocket construction, hardware that corroded after one season. The black 566 from BECK has none of those problems. The back panel is a single piece so my center patch sits flat with no distortion. YKK zippers throughout. The concealed carry pockets are positioned slightly forward of the side seam which makes draw access easier than most vest designs I've tried. The horsehide is stiff for the first couple hundred miles and the stand-up collar takes a few wears to settle but once it does the fit is locked in. This is exactly the vest a patch holder needs.

What a great horsehide vest. This to me is the perfect motorcycle vest, with it's classy look and tough as heck feel. Putting this vest on brought me back to the days when horsehide was all the thing. Now it's tough to find, but it's so cool how Legendary is bringing the line back. Nothing better than horsehide and my BECK 566 checks all the boxes of a perfect motorcycle cut. Very solid vest. -Chappy

I support made in usa and this beck vest is the best thing I ever word while riding

No brainer. the horsehide is incredible and can't wait for this to break in because I love the feeling of horsehide been riding in hh for years. i was going to go with the 46 but gave legendary a call and opted for the 48 so i could wear a hooded sweatshirt under it and it fits perfect.

Best surprise gift :gift:

I'm absolutely in love with this vest ! I bought it as a surprise gift for my boyfriend's birthday. I also got his nickname engraved in it as well. I wish I was able to upload pictures so you could see exactly how it came out..

First BECK, definitely great BUT I have an improvement you can make, this is in no way a complaint.

Would it be possible to offer this without the collar? I wear a full face helmet and the collar stands up a little too much causing it to ride on my neck a little. This is why I usually never get vests with collars, but I heard so many great things about the 566, that I've always wanted it for the last 5 years, just did not have the funds. My buddy, said I could just go to a seamstress and they would be able to remove the collar. I might do that, because I know I am weird, but even dress shirts any shirt with a collar I just don't like to wear them. Teddy S.

I read most of the reviews and had to get this vest

From the second I took it out of the box (nice presentation btw) I put it on, it was soft like butter, I can tell it had a thin coat of conditioner and that made me happy. It's going to break in perfect I can tell already. 5 Stars For Sure. Love it.

The horsehide? Tough as a Louisiana gator

Just gotta give a holler to the BECK Men's 566 Horsehide Leather Vest in black. it's like the midnight soul of the South stitched into badassery. The horsehide? Tough as a Louisiana gator, and the fit? Sweeter than a magnolia bloom.

Craftsmanship is sharper than a Texas two-step, and those gun pockets? Practicality meets Southern rebellion. Whether you're raisin' dust in Mississippi or taming the backroads of Alabama, this vest is the real deal.
