Blood Chit Collectible: A Piece of Military History

The 4-piece blood chit set collects four eras of American military aviation: the Flying Tigers WWII chit (AVG, China and Burma, 1941 to 1942), the Korean War chit (UN forces, 1950 to 1953), the Vietnam era chit (Southeast Asia, 1960 to 1975), and the Persian Gulf chit (Operation Desert Storm, 1990 to 1991).

Together they document how the blood chit changed across fifty years. The Flying Tigers chit represents the beginning, issued by the Aviation Commission of the Republic of China to civilian American volunteers flying for China before US entry into WWII, and commonly sewn into a flight jacket. The Korean War chit reflects the multi-flag coalition structure of the UN conflict. The Vietnam chit shows the program at its most linguistically broad, with a serial number that made a civilian's reward claim provable. The Persian Gulf chit carried a serial number in each corner so several helpers could each claim separately.

The blood chit program did not end in 1991. The Department of Defense still issues them, now printed on Tyvek. What these four represent is the silk era, from 1941 to 1991.

Each is screen-printed on genuine silk. By Int'l Insignia.
