Naval Wool · The Oldest Pattern Here

Before flight jackets,
there was the watch coat.

The peacoat predates every flight jacket in this store — working sailors and fishermen wore it first, its name tracing to the Dutch word pije, a coarse woolen cloth, before the British Royal Navy and the US Navy adopted the design as their own, per Cockpit's telling. The Admiral is Cockpit USA's tailored version of that lineage: 32–34 oz P-90 melton wool, an ulster collar that buttons to the throat, a double-breasted front closed with USN regulation-size horn anchor buttons, and a five-pocket interior — two inside pockets, a camo pouch, a pen/wallet pocket — under their signature emblem lining. Regular fit, S–4XL. Made in the USA.

The Material

Wool by the ounce.

Cockpit specifies the cloth like a contractor: P-90 melton at 32 to 34 ounces per yard, 80% wool with 20% nylon woven in for wear. Density is the warmth strategy — melton blocks wind outright.

The horn anchor buttons are cut to USN regulation size. Small detail; correct detail.

The Admiral is the lineup's one non-jacket — and it gets the same discipline: regulation buttons, contractor-grade cloth, a tailored cut that answers to the naval original rather than to fashion.
