Before you ride.

How long does horsehide take to break in?

Two to four weeks of regular wear. It starts stiff — that density is the point — then molds to your build and riding position.

Horsehide vs. cowhide?

Denser and tighter-grained at the same thickness — it blocks wind better and wears in rather than wearing out.

How do I care for it?

Sparingly. Dry cloth for dust; a neutral conditioner once or twice a year. Test inside a pocket flap first.

Can the fit be adjusted?

Within a size, yes — side buckle tabs dial the chest and waist. Between sizes with a mid-layer? Take the larger.

The Northeaster

Ninety-eight years of horsehide.
One jacket refined by every mile.

BECK® has made horsehide riding gear in the USA since 1928. The 777 is the most refined Northeaster yet — the same dense front quarter hide, with interior construction and hardware improved over decades of rider feedback.

The Material

Front quarter horsehide.
The densest cut of the hide.

Horsehide is tighter-grained than cowhide at the same thickness — it stops wind the way steel stops rain. BECK® cuts only from the front quarter, where the fibers run densest.

Aniline drum-dyeing keeps the surface honest: scarring, grain shift, and range marks stay visible. No two hides match. No two jackets match.

What Riders Say

4.91 from 32 riders.

4.91 32 reviews

Riders keep coming back to three things the density and finish of the horsehide, fit that runs true to the chest measurement, and value against jackets selling for twice the price. The snap-down collar gets called out by name again and again. The most common advice if you ride with a hoodie or mid-layer, size up one, then let it break in.

Excellent quality

I can honestly say this jacket is absolutely incredible — don’t overthink it, just get one and you’ll understand why it’s worth every penny.

Questions

Before you ride.

How long does horsehide take to break in?

Expect two to four weeks of regular wear. Horsehide starts stiff — that density is the point — then molds to your build and riding position. The bi-swing back and underarm gussets move from day one.

Horsehide vs. cowhide — what's the real difference?

At equal thickness, horsehide is denser and tighter-grained, so it blocks wind better and wears in rather than wearing out. Cowhide starts softer; horsehide ends up more personal — it molds to you and holds that shape for decades.

How do I care for aniline horsehide?

Sparingly. Wipe dust with a dry cloth and condition lightly once or twice a year with a neutral leather conditioner. Aniline hide darkens slightly with product, so test inside a pocket flap first. Never machine-dry, never store wet.

Can the fit be adjusted after purchase?

Within a size, yes. The side buckle tabs dial in the chest and waist, and the snap-down collar and zip cuffs adjust the seal. Between sizes with a mid-layer? Take the larger size.

What's the shipping and return policy?

Free shipping and free returns within the USA on unworn jackets. Full details are in the store's shipping and returns policy at checkout.

Snap down collar is the detail I wanted

Been looking for a horsehide jacket with a snap down collar for winter riding and this 777 in black is it. The cotton lining is comfortable against a long sleeve shirt and the angled chest pockets are easy to reach with gloves on. It feels heavy in a good way. I ordered one size up from my normal size so I can fit a hoodie under it and that was the right call.

Luxury feel without the luxury markup

Black horsehide with a low sheen, definitely goind to recommend sizing up one size, as I should have measured myself with hoodie or sweater.

Thank you for the helpful sizing insight. Horsehide doesn’t stretch much in the shoulders, so layering considerations are always important when choosing a size.

Fits exactly how I hoped

The flying-togs detailing is all there, trust me I've owned a handful of the originals and the leather is dense and rich as they used to eb.. I am hoping to actually ride in it if it ever stops raining here. :-)

As longtime fans of original Flying Togs pieces, your comments mean a lot. We worked hard to preserve the spirit of the originals while building something worthy of the BECK name.

Gets compliments everywhere

Customer service was patient when I asked about break-in and gave me an honest rundown, so there were no surprises when it showed up.

Thank you! We believe honest communication about horsehide break-in is important. Setting realistic expectations helps customers enjoy the process rather than worry about it.

American made and worth it

I've worn it on raw mornings with no complaints, I probably should have sized up to accomodate extra layers, but I really do love the fit.

We’re glad the jacket has been performing well for you. Horsehide paired with proper construction makes for a jacket that’s equally at home on cool morning rides and everyday wear.

great fit

The black HH is already taking on nice character around the seams and this jacket is my new favorite. Totally worth it and great price point for Made in USA.

Thank you for the review. One of the best parts of black horsehide is watching the character emerge around stress points and seams. No two jackets age exactly the same.

Kimberly answered my fit questions fast, and her size call was dead on for my build. Very happy with my purchase.

Kimberly will appreciate hearing this. Helping customers find the right size is one of the most important parts of what we do.

No break-in headaches

The price made sense to me being American Made and other people out there selling them for 2x the price. I am really impressed with the quality. Reviews are accurate.

We appreciate the kind words. Our goal has always been to offer premium American-made horsehide jackets at a fair price without sacrificing materials or craftsmanship.

I absolutely love this jacket!

I absolutely love this jacket! I own several different leather jackets from Vanson, Schott, Aero and others, but this is rapidly becoming my favorite! A really nice jacket for a very reasonable price!

Very cool

The 777 is a very well built HH jacket and for the money it’s tops. I will enjoy it for many years to come although I had one thing that I didn’t understand about the inside label, it’s supposed to be a model 777 but the label says 666, not quite sure what happened there but all in all it’s a very nice jacket. Thanks

The 777 does not dissapoint

Rich, deep chestnut with good mid-weight heft. Side tabs make room for a hoodie; slash pockets set well back toward the sides. Breaks in within about 3 weeks, faster with conditioner. Short body, right for riding. Schott quality at half the price; a size-60 custom fit perfectly.

Sent me wrong size, but made it right

Was sent a size 44 ordered a 46, easy exchange process, but I really hate the hassle. As for the jacket it's perfect, great fit and value for the money being American made.

Tremendous Jacket

Tremendous jacket and great price obviously made in USA so it checked all the boxes, however I was sent a size 48 and ordered a 46. It wasn't an issue and they did the right thing by sending me a new one ASAP, but I couldn't take it with me on an important ride so that's why I gave it a 4 stars.

issues happen, we got you though

the quality & value can't be beat

True to description blown away by the quality, value for the money and overall fit. True to size and stunning horsehide. I was curious if Beck will ever do a modified horsehide A-2 style biker jacket with waistband and elastic cuffs. Think it would do very well as outside of military spec A-2s this could really be something unique. TJ

This is my second Horse

This is my second Horse Hide jacket purchase from Legendary. The quality and workmanship is top notch. My only complaint is over the sleeve zipper pulls. They should be the same as the main zipper pulls. I'm afraid that the flimsy pulls will fail prematurely.

This jacket is AWESOME. Really

This jacket is AWESOME. Really nice good qualit leather and stitching. I’m a rider and I think this jacket is up for the task I need it to perform. Buy with confidence. A great value for the money. I ordered a size 40 and it fits my 39.5 inch chest, 31 inch waist and 19 inch shoulder measurements perfectly. Thank you Legendary for providing such a great product. Ride safe!

Visited Legendary USA showroom and this is my review

first, great professional help, Lori helped size me and I tried on a lot of the styles, I went there thinking I might try the trucker jacket, but ended up with the Beck 777. Perfect fit I wear a size 52 Left there and rode with it back to Cape May on my bike. The fit & feel are absolutely terrific. Great jacket and customer service. I will definitely visit legendary again soon. thank you so much James Reigns.

BECK 777 perfect for riding great pattern and fit

Really appreciate the snap down collars and overall quality of the horsehide is some of the best I've felt. I am 6'0, 210, chest 43 stomach 38. I went with the 44, fits perfect with or without a hoodie. Theres nothing I don't love about this jacket. Love riding in it and it's breaking in sweet. Legendary was great to deal with and appreciate their teams work with sizing questions.

Beck 777 Sz 38 Wonderful

I was in a specific search for a jacket that had a snapped down collar and was Horsehide for winter riding. I came across legendary USA and purchased this jacket. Delivery was very fast. I received the jacket in less than a week note I live in New Jersey. I have a 39 inch chest. I’m about 5 foot 10 inches , 30” waist 18.5 shoulder I weigh about 140 pounds. I called Chris and submitted my measurements to him. He stated that I would fit just fine in a size 38 but if I wanted to layer a hoodie under a size 40 would suffice. I opted for the size 38 because I like my jacket to be pretty close. The sizing is very accurate on these jackets a 38 fits exactly like a 38 should. With a medium sweater under this jacket, still zips all the way up it is a very substantially thick leather. The jacket is quite heavy and he’s exactly what I wanted. It drapes on my shoulders perfectly so I don’t have any tight spots under the arms, very wide range of movement The day after I received the jacket, I took it for a spin on my motorcycle. This jacket I feel is gonna last a very long time. Thank you, Chris for your professionalism and promise kept.

BECK is going places. Amazing Price + Super High Quality.

Knockout job! And the horsehide leather sourcing, like wow, it's beautiful and sturdy. I know it's in demand and tough to get. Superb quality and also how it was designed I must say the front arm vertical movement gives me wide range Front (up/down) in riding position. I give the jacket 5 starts because where can you get a horsehide moto jacket for the price? These guys are keeping it real and true to their commitment. Great experience with Legendary. Lester B.

Five Stars. So Impressed This is my First BECK

My first Beck and I couldn't be more satisfied. Also, my very first horsehide leather jacket. Fits so nicely and love the length. I used to have a Levis trucker very similar style to this and I always loved that look.

Is there anything special I need to do to take care of horsehide or is it similar to cowhide in terms of conditioning or cleaning and also what happens if I get it wet? Maybe I will write to Legendary directly. I don't know if people can leave comments on here. Thank you, Sully
