Wasn't expecting quite this much weight when I unboxed the 588 but once I strapped it on I understood why. That front quarter horsehide is thick.

The 588 is a heavier vest than I expected, and the grain on the hide is something to look at.

Bought the 588 back in November and I've put about 4,000 miles on it since. First couple weeks the leather was stiff — that's real horsehide.

Before you ride.

How heavy is the 588?

The heaviest in the BECK® vest line — 1.4–1.6mm front quarter horsehide. Riders are surprised at unboxing, then understand on the bike.

How long does break-in take?

Longer than the lighter vests — expect a couple of stiff weeks. Riders with thousands of miles on theirs say the reward is greater.

How does the side lacing work?

The classic adjustment — the laces let you dial the body of the vest to your build, and re-dial it as the hide breaks in.

How do I care for it?

Sparingly. Dry cloth for dust; a neutral conditioner once or twice a year. Test inside a pocket flap first.

Sewn by hands
that ride.

Every 588 is cut and sewn in an American workshop that has never chased volume. Panels are matched by grain direction and every vest is inspected by the person who built it.
