The jacket that starred
in Top Gun.
Originally created in 1985, this jacket appeared in the film that made the G-1 a household name — and Cockpit USA partnered with Paramount to promote Top Gun in 1986. The reproduction is licensed and deliberate: all 17 patches placed to the screen original, the metal USN Anchor pin, a vintage rack-stitch waistband, and — correctly for an early-model G-1 — no "USN" punched through the wind flap. Vintage-treated so it arrives the way the original looked on screen.

The Material
Worn in
before you wear it.
Specially prepared vegetable-tanned goatskin, treated with Cockpit's vintage process so the leather — and the patches — carry a worn-in patina from day one. Even the knit cuffs may show slight pilling, exactly as intended.
The collar is aged mouton shearling; the lining is satin. Each jacket distresses differently — no two are alike.
Construction
Correct to the frame.
17 embroidered patches
Authentically embroidered, vintage-treated, and placed per the film-verified original.
Metal USN Anchor pin
Mil-spec, metal not plastic — with the film-correct crooked N buyers keep discovering.
No USN punch
Early-model spec G-1s had no punched wind flap — so this one doesn't either.
Rack-stitch waistband
Vintage rack rib knit at the waist — another period-correct change to the pattern.
Bi-swing back
The G-1's action back, unchanged — full reach without ride-up.
Patch pockets + interior snap
Two front button patch pockets and an interior snap-close pocket.

The signature
Distressed Treatment.
The vintage finish is a process developed by Cockpit USA founder Jeff Clyman. Leather and patches are aged by hand until the jacket doesn't just look like a vintage original — it feels and fits like one. Initial measurements may vary slightly once treated.
Two distressed jackets will never look and fit exactly the same. That's the point.

Questions

Is this the actual movie jacket?
It's Cockpit USA's licensed reproduction of the jacket that starred in Top Gun — originally created in 1985, with all 17 patches and the USN Anchor pin placed per the screen-used original. Cockpit partnered with Paramount to promote the film in 1986.
Why is there no USN punched on the wind flap?
Historical accuracy. Early-model spec G-1s didn't have the punched USN — so, correctly, neither does this jacket. The current-spec G-1 Mil-Spec has it.
Is the USN pin's crooked N a defect?
No — it matches the original film jacket. Verified buyers have checked the film frame by frame.
Why does each jacket look slightly different?
The signature Distressed Treatment, developed by founder Jeff Clyman, hand-ages the leather and patches. Measurements may vary slightly, and no two jackets ever match.
Can I get it without the patches?
Yes — Cockpit's 100 Mission G-1 is the same concept without patches.
How does the sizing run?
