Before you ride.

How long does horsehide take to break in?

Two to four weeks of regular wear. It starts stiff — that density is the point — then molds to your build and riding position.

Horsehide vs. cowhide?

Denser and tighter-grained at the same thickness — it blocks wind better and wears in rather than wearing out.

How do I care for it?

Sparingly. Dry cloth for dust; a neutral conditioner once or twice a year. Test inside a pocket flap first.

Can the fit be adjusted?

Within a size, yes — side buckle tabs dial the chest and waist. Between sizes with a mid-layer? Take the larger.

The Northeaster

Ninety-eight years of horsehide.
One jacket refined by every mile.

BECK® has made horsehide riding gear in the USA since 1928. The 777 is the most refined Northeaster yet — the same dense front quarter hide, with interior construction and hardware improved over decades of rider feedback.

The Material

Front quarter horsehide.
The densest cut of the hide.

Horsehide is tighter-grained than cowhide at the same thickness — it stops wind the way steel stops rain. BECK® cuts only from the front quarter, where the fibers run densest.

Aniline drum-dyeing keeps the surface honest: scarring, grain shift, and range marks stay visible. No two hides match. No two jackets match.

Construction

Overbuilt, on purpose.

Perma Core® thread

Stitched with Perma Core thread by American & Efird — seams that outlast the rider.

YKK® zippers

Main and cuff zips run on YKK — the quiet standard for hardware that never fails.

Antique brass hardware

Solid brass, aged finish. It patinas with the hide instead of wearing against it.

Bi-swing back

A pleated action back that lets you reach the bars without the jacket riding up.

Vented gussets

Underarm gussets move air on hot days and give the shoulders full rotation.

Pistola pockets

Two concealed-carry pockets, nine inches deep, seamed into the chest panels.

“Cut, stitched, and finished in America — the way it has been done since 1928.”

The Workshop

Sewn by hands
that ride.

Every 777 is cut and sewn in an American workshop that has never chased volume. Panels are matched by grain direction, seams are double-needled, and every jacket is inspected by the person who built it.

That's why the label carries a signature line, not a batch number.

Cut for the ride,

Room through the shoulders, trim at the waist, sleeves cut for a forward reach. Off the bike it reads tailored; on the bike, nothing binds.

What Riders Say

4.9 from 30 riders.

4.9 30 verified reviews

Across 30 verified purchases, riders keep coming back to three things: the density and finish of the horsehide, fit that runs true to the chest measurement, and value against jackets selling for twice the price. The snap-down collar gets called out by name again and again. The most common advice — if you ride with a hoodie or mid-layer, size up one, then let it break in.

Questions

Before you ride.

How long does horsehide take to break in?

Expect two to four weeks of regular wear. Horsehide starts stiff — that density is the point — then molds to your build and riding position. The bi-swing back and underarm gussets move from day one.

Horsehide vs. cowhide — what's the real difference?

At equal thickness, horsehide is denser and tighter-grained, so it blocks wind better and wears in rather than wearing out. Cowhide starts softer; horsehide ends up more personal — it molds to you and holds that shape for decades.

How do I care for aniline horsehide?

Sparingly. Wipe dust with a dry cloth and condition lightly once or twice a year with a neutral leather conditioner. Aniline hide darkens slightly with product, so test inside a pocket flap first. Never machine-dry, never store wet.

Can the fit be adjusted after purchase?

Within a size, yes. The side buckle tabs dial in the chest and waist, and the snap-down collar and zip cuffs adjust the seal. Between sizes with a mid-layer? Take the larger size.

What's the shipping and return policy?

Free shipping and free returns within the USA on unworn jackets. Full details are in the store's shipping and returns policy at checkout.
